About The Southern Gypsy
The Southern Gypsy Story
Mackenzie, the owner and founder of The Southern Gypsy, followed her dream and launched the business in April 2019. It all started one night when she created a handbag for herself using a Louis Vuitton Petite Noé. After carrying it for a few months, she decided to list it on eBay—four months later, it sold to someone in Colorado. That one sale sparked a thought:
“What if I started making more?”
From there, Mackenzie began creating one-of-a-kind, Western-inspired pieces and sharing them on Instagram. What started as a single bag has now grown into a thriving business with loyal customers across the country.
About Mackenzie
Born and raised in the small town of Minneapolis, Kansas, Mackenzie moved to the Texas Panhandle in 2010. She graduated high school, spent two years living in England, and eventually settled back in Texas, where she now lives and raises her family.
Her career began in the automotive world as an Internet Sales Manager at a car dealership. But just one week before her wedding, everything changed—the dealership went bankrupt, and she suddenly found herself unemployed.
That moment of panic led to reflection and, ultimately, reinvention.
After trying different sales jobs and even returning to cosmetology school to earn her license, nothing quite felt like the right fit. While pregnant with her first child in 2019, she started creating bags on the side—and that’s when The Southern Gypsy was truly born.
In 2020, when her son was just four months old, Mackenzie discovered she was pregnant again—this time with identical twin girls. Now a proud single mom of three beautiful children, her business is not just a passion—it’s how she provides for her family.
Her son is a sweet, loving mama’s boy, and her twin girls couldn’t be more different—Sutton is a tomboy with a girly streak, and Sienna is a total diva with big personality.
Thanks to the love and support of her incredible customers, Mackenzie gets to wake up every day and do what she loves.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You’re not just supporting a small business—you’re supporting a mom with big dreams.”
